These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of Starscreen, an AI-powered resume screening platform. By creating an account or using our service, you agree to these Terms.
1. Acceptance of Terms
By accessing or using Starscreen, you agree to be bound by these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, you may not use our service.
2. Account Registration
2.1 Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old and have the legal capacity to enter into contracts.
2.2 Account Security
- You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials
- You must notify us immediately of any unauthorized access
- You are responsible for all activities under your account
- One account per email address
2.3 Email Verification
You must verify your email address to access protected features. Unverified accounts have limited functionality.
3. Subscription Plans and Billing
3.1 Plans
Starscreen offers multiple subscription tiers:
- FREE: 10 candidates/month
- RECRUITER (STARTER): 100 candidates/month - $20/month or $16/month (annual)
- SMALL BUSINESS: 1,000 candidates/month - $149/month or $119/month (annual)
- ENTERPRISE (PROFESSIONAL): 5,000 candidates/month - $499/month or $399/month (annual)
3.2 Billing
- Subscriptions are billed monthly in advance
- Payment is processed through Stripe
- All fees are in USD and non-refundable
- Usage resets on the first day of each billing cycle
3.3 Upgrades and Downgrades
- Upgrades: Take effect immediately, prorated for the current period
- Downgrades: Take effect at the start of the next billing cycle
3.4 Cancellation
- You may cancel your subscription at any time
- Cancellations take effect at the end of the current billing period
- Upon cancellation, your account automatically reverts to the FREE plan
- No refunds for partial months
3.5 Failed Payments
- If payment fails, we will retry 3 times over 7 days
- If all retries fail, your subscription will be canceled
- You will receive email notifications before suspension
4. Acceptable Use
4.1 Permitted Use
You may use Starscreen only for:
- Legitimate recruitment and hiring purposes
- Evaluating candidate qualifications
- Internal HR and talent management
4.2 Prohibited Activities
You must NOT:
- Upload resumes without proper authorization
- Use Starscreen for discriminatory hiring practices
- Scrape, crawl, or reverse-engineer our service
- Attempt to bypass subscription limits or security measures
- Share your account credentials with others
- Use our AI models to train competing services
- Upload malware, viruses, or malicious code
- Violate any applicable laws or regulations
5. Data and Privacy
5.1 Your Data
- You retain all rights to resumes and candidate data you upload
- We process data solely to provide our service

5.2 Data Security
While we implement industry-standard security measures, you acknowledge that:
- No system is 100% secure
- You are responsible for the data you upload
- You must comply with applicable data protection laws (GDPR, CCPA)
5.3 Data Deletion
Upon account deletion, we will:
- Permanently delete your account data within 30 days
- Delete all uploaded resumes and candidate information
- Retain billing records for 7 years (legal requirement)
6. Intellectual Property
6.1 Starscreen Ownership
We own all rights to:
- The Starscreen platform, code, and design
- AI models and algorithms
- Trademarks, logos, and branding
6.2 Your Content
You grant us a limited license to:
- Process and analyze uploaded resumes
- Use anonymized, aggregated data to improve our AI models
- Store and transmit your data as necessary to provide the service
7. AI-Generated Results
Important: Starscreen uses AI to score and match candidates. AI results should be used as a tool to assist decision-making, not as the sole basis for hiring decisions.
You acknowledge that:
- AI-generated scores are probabilistic and may contain errors
- You are responsible for final hiring decisions
- You must comply with anti-discrimination laws
- We are not liable for hiring decisions made using our platform
8. Service Availability
8.1 Uptime
We strive for 99.9% uptime but do not guarantee uninterrupted service. Downtime may occur for:
- Scheduled maintenance (announced 48 hours in advance)
- Emergency security patches
- Third-party service outages (AWS, OpenAI, Stripe)
8.2 No Warranty
Starscreen is provided "AS IS" without warranties of any kind. We do not guarantee:
- Error-free operation
- Specific AI accuracy rates
- Compatibility with all file formats
9. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law:
- We are not liable for indirect, consequential, or punitive damages
- Our total liability is limited to the amount you paid in the last 12 months
- We are not responsible for hiring decisions or their outcomes
- We are not liable for data breaches caused by your negligence
10. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold Starscreen harmless from any claims arising from:
- Your violation of these Terms
- Your violation of any law or third-party rights
- Unauthorized use of candidate data
- Discriminatory hiring practices
11. Termination
11.1 By You
You may delete your account at any time from the account settings page.
11.2 By Us
We may suspend or terminate your account if you:
- Violate these Terms
- Fail to pay subscription fees
- Engage in fraudulent or abusive behavior
- Pose a security risk to our platform
12. Changes to Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. We will:
- Notify you via email of material changes
- Provide 30 days notice before changes take effect
- Post the updated Terms on our website
Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance of the new Terms.
13. Dispute Resolution
